The Context
Traditional fashion production often relies on producing goods before actual demand is known. For customized apparel, the process becomes even more complex: customer configurations, patterns, production planning and manufacturing data need to move reliably between different systems.
Gertsch wanted to create a different model: production begins only after a specific customer order is placed. This can reduce overproduction, inventory and unnecessary use of resources while making individualized production commercially viable.
