Internet of Things in commodity trading
As a global company with over 150 sites, Glencore has a large number of buildings. soxes was able to support Glencore in optimising and expanding its processes for building management and maintenance. -and maintenance processes. The dimensions of the group and the associated complexity made the project a challenge that our team was able to master with the necessary competence.
Smart web application
The aim of the project was to create a platform for the central management of all buildings. For this purpose, a web app was developed in which individual main buildings can be recorded and segmented. In addition, the application allows to manage all devices within a building. A variety of information can be assigned to each device. For example, service and maintenance dates can be recorded and linked to the responsible service partner. In addition, an interface to the instaSOLUTION alarm system has been set up. Thus, the application recognises all alarms of the individual devices and can process them.
Technologies used
A technology stack consisting of Angular, Python and MySQL was used to develop the application. The back-end was built with the Python framework Django and provides the user interface (Angular) with all the information it needs from the MySQL database. The web app runs on Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform.
Digitalisation with IoT
The web app enables Glencore employees to manage the many buildings efficiently and in one central location. In addition, the building portfolio can be flexibly expanded and new requirements can be quickly taken into account. The connection to the alarm system also integrates the Internet of Things into the management process, which puts Glencore’s administrative processes at the forefront of the digitalisation race.
