Artificial intelligence (AI) is no longer just a topic for science fiction films and experts in the IT sector. In our daily lives, we already encounter numerous examples of AI applications that support us in a wide variety of situations.

Here we present some examples that show how AI is shaping our everyday lives and how companies like soxes are helping to further develop this exciting technology.

Artificial intelligence: definition

Before we turn to the concrete examples of “artificial intelligence in everyday life,” let’s first clarify what is meant by the term AI. Artificial intelligence refers to the attempt to create human-like intelligence in computer systems and applications. The idea is for machines to learn to solve problems on their own, to make decisions, and to keep learning – much like humans do.

1. AI in search engines

A common example of artificial intelligence is search engines such as Google, Bing or Yahoo. Through the use of AI technologies such as RankBrain and the BERT update, these search engines are able to respond more and more precisely to users’ needs and optimize search results accordingly. For example, natural language and correlations between search terms are taken into account to constantly improve the relevance and accuracy of search results.

2. recommendation algorithms and personalized advertising.

AI also finds application in recommendation algorithms of streaming services such as Netflix, YouTube or Amazon Prime as well as in social media such as Facebook, Instagram or TikTok. By analyzing user behavior and preferences, these platforms can display personalized recommendations and advertising tailored to users’ individual tastes and interests.

3. voice assistants and smart home

One of the best-known examples of artificial intelligence are voice assistants such as Alexa, Siri or Google Assistant. These AI-based applications can respond to voice commands and perform various tasks, such as playing music, controlling smart home devices or answering questions. In the process, they are constantly learning and improving their ability to understand natural language and provide appropriate responses.

4. facial recognition and security

AI-powered facial recognition systems are used in a variety of applications, such as unlocking smartphones, identifying people in surveillance cameras, and automated passport control at airports. Through continuous learning, these systems improve their ability to reliably recognize faces even under changing lighting conditions or altered appearance.

5. email filtering and spam detection.

AI also plays an important role in identifying and filtering unwanted emails, known as spam. Using AI algorithms, email programs analyze incoming messages for suspicious patterns, such as the type of formatting, subject, or time of sending. In this way, spam messages can be detected and automatically moved to the spam folder without the user having to sort them out manually.

6. navigation and traffic management

AI-powered navigation systems have become an integral part of our everyday lives. They help us get from one place to another efficiently while avoiding traffic obstructions such as traffic jams, road works or accidents. With the help of AI, navigation systems can constantly incorporate new data into their route planning and thus calculate the optimal path to the destination.

7. music and video streaming

AI algorithms are also used in music and video streaming services such as Spotify or YouTube. They analyze user behavior and preferences to create personalized recommendations and playlists. This allows users to discover new music and videos that suit their tastes and interests.

8. word processing and translation programs.

AI technologies are also finding application in word processing and translation programs such as Google Translate. Through machine learning, these programs are able to provide increasingly accurate translations that also take into account idioms and culture-specific phrases. AI is also being used to auto-complete texts or predict words and phrases in smartphone apps.

9. autonomous driving and driving assistance systems

Finally, artificial intelligence plays a crucial role in the development of autonomous vehicles and driving assistance systems. AI systems in cars can be used, for example, in parking assistance, distance control or brake assistance. They are also able to process traffic data in real time, making driving safer and more efficient.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly shaping the business world by optimising processes, increasing efficiency and opening up new opportunities in various industries.
Here are examples of how AI can be used in companies:

1. Artificial intelligence in food production

A concrete application example for AI and machine learning can be found at the Emmi Group, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of dairy products. Together with soxes, an AI application was developed that is able to detect errors in the production chain of its yoghurt products. The system, which is based on Microsoft Custom Vision technology, checks whether the correct lid has been applied to the corresponding yoghurt pot. The check is carried out by taking pictures of the lids, which are forwarded to an application. If the application detects a mismatch between the product and the lid, it sends a signal to the camera, which stops the production process.

2. Financial services and fraud detection

Artificial intelligence is also being used in the area of financial services. UBS uses AI to improve its financial services. For example, AI-supported algorithms are used to optimise investment strategies and provide clients with personalised investment recommendations. In addition, UBS uses AI to detect and prevent fraud and to automate compliance and risk management processes.

3. AI in product development

Companies such as Procter & Gamble are using AI to speed up the product development process. AI-supported analyses of customer feedback and market trends help to design new products that meet current customer needs. AI can also be used to support the simulation of product use and stress in order to test prototypes more quickly and cost-effectively.

4. AI in the HR department

The company Assessment Gate uses AI to optimise the recruitment process. soxes has developed a software that allows Assessment Gate to create a validated aptitude test with little effort, compare the results directly and obtain a highly accurate basis for decision-making. This solution is based on psychological knowledge, in-depth data analysis and artificial intelligence.

5. AI in the pharmaceutical industry

Roche uses AI intensively in the research and development of new medicine. AI algorithms analyse genetic data and clinical trials to identify new drug targets and assess the efficacy and safety of new therapies. This accelerates the development process and leads to more precise treatment methods.
